Avnet Displays and SiS: delivering excellence together

As you might imagine, we are very particular when it comes to who we partner with. After all, we have an impeccable track record for giving our customers the very best displays. So, we’d like to introduce you to Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS), whose specialized firmware and hardware meets our every expectation – and yours.

The SiS 95xx series of Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen controller ICs, in particular, really stood out to our display engineers. Primarily for their reliability and functionality, but also for a set of features that are designed with industrial, commercial, and embedded touch applications in mind.

  • Dual Core IC with Integrated DSP for high-speed data processing and real-time performance
  • Works with 18V, minimizing irradiated noise emissions, ensuring low interference
  • High-Speed Analog Data Acquisition for a superior signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 1 to 24
  • Real-Time Signal Analysis with FFT gives precise and reliable operation in any environment
  • Thick Surface Handling for touch functionality on surfaces of up to 10mm
  • Glove Recognition automatically detects, but also adjusts by usage
  • Water Compatibility functions flawlessly in multi-touch mode, even with water on the surface

Impressed? Us too. Especially when we looked at some of the standout features that SiS offer in the context of products and industries:

Home Automation

This is an area where stability and resilience really matter, so SiS developed a specialized firmware with GPIO functionality for just this purpose. For example, when a computer system becomes unresponsive, the solution lets users to reset the board unit by simply touching a designated area of the touchscreen for a specified duration. This triggers the GPIO to activate a relay that resets the entire system, which we think you’ll agree is an easy, practical and effective safeguard to minimize downtime.

Agriculture and Automotive

In agricultural and automotive applications, there are rigorous standards around electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and meeting them is crucial. The specialized firmware in SiS solutions is designed to minimize EMI, making our devices fully compliant with automotive-grade irradiation tests and EMC standards, including the demanding 150V/m test.

White Goods and Ticket Machines

Where easy maintenance is a must, air gap solutions are a dream. Unlike traditional laminated setups, the cover glass isn’t laminated on the projected capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen and it’s this ‘modular’ approach which allows customers to replace the cover glass themselves without requiring specialist tools or a cleanroom environment. This makes for a big reduction in downtime and maintenance costs.

Coffee Machines

These often operate where there is a lot of electrical interference, which can disrupt how they communicate using I2C or USB connections. Smart firmware from SiS can detect when communication freezes, automatically waking up I2C or USB buses, keeping everything running smoothly even in noisy environments. Because we all know that even an extra minute waiting for a coffee can feel like ten, right?

Medical and High-Frequency Devices

Dentist systems and high frequency surgical devices are known to create extremely high levels of noise, which can cause the phenomenon of ‘phantom touches’. These compromise usability – which is the very last thing you want in critical medical scenarios. Thankfully, SiS solutions are engineered with these potential issues in mind and ensure accurate and reliable touch responses, even in high noise environments.

Just these few examples alone brilliantly illustrate just why we are so confident in working with SiS solutions, but if you don’t see your world represented here – talk to us
