Thyristors

Thyristors are four layered solid state semiconductor devices with alternate N-type and P-type materials, having three terminals (anode, cathode and gate) that will start to conduct when gate is triggered and continue until the device is forward biased. They are primarily designed to amplify and rectify the electrical currents that flow in high-powered electronic devices.
